You may think of your period as an annoyance but can you imagine not having pads/tampons every month? Did you know that feminine products are the least donated products to homeless shelters? Did you know that many girls in our schools do not have access to these necessities? For many women the implications of living without these necessary supplies are serious… it’s the difference between attending school or work, between peace of mind and humiliation or between infection and health. Homeless Period Project
I was excited to have the opportunity to volunteer with the local South Carolina chapter of this important organization on May 7, 2018.
May is their third anniversary and the party started with asking for donations of sanitary supplies, then bagging them into small baggies that are easy to distribute. They are going to homeless shelters and various schools around Greenville County.
No girl or woman should ever be stigmatized by having a period, or feel embarrassed to ask for what they need. I love the mission of this organization and look forward to supporting them again!
