People of District #17… If I lived there I’d be pounding the pavement for this amazing woman. The US Virgin Islands loss will be your gain. She has ability and humility. Honesty, integrity and humanity! — Richard
What a tribute to our beautiful island. As you said, “what the government could/wouldn’t do”, the people of the USVI stepped up to the plate and did so much themselves with the help of each other. I was there for Irma, but luckily missed the wrath of Maria by one day, to be with my daughter for her life saving kidney transplant. I lived on St. Croix (with a bit on St. Thomas) for nearly 10 years. I met you and Senator Sanes at Room with a View. You are an amazing woman so many of us respect and Love. Thank you for all that you do for EVERY community you represent. — ❤️ Debi
Thank you for being there for us in the VI last year. Since my home wasn’t liveable after Maria, I’m now on the coast of NC. It’s kind of comforting to know you’ll be nearby after this one, too.
In case anyone is wondering, Buckley was on the ground with us, helping feed people and fighting for the right of relief workers. Without her pressure, some people, including my husband, may never have been paid for their hard work. — Fallin
I had the pleasure to serve with Judi Buckley in the Virgin Islands Legislature. She worked hard and smart. She stood for issues that focused on education and public safety. She often dragged me out of my house during the weekend to investigate matters such as government waste and intellectual dishonesty conveyed by agencies during budget hearings. Senator Buckley believes in fairness. She is an ally and advocate for women and children. I miss her dearly. Your district gets a Gem in Judi! — Senator Nellie O’Reilly
I had the honor of working on Senator Buckley’s campaign on St Croix, US Virgin Islands and then as a staffer in her Senate office as her Communications Director. I can tell you first hand that she works hard, with integrity and most importantly, walks the walk. Communication and transparency with her constituents was of the utmost importance.
She welcomed questions from the public via social media, email or any other means and addressed those questions with testifiers directly during Senate Committee hearings. She encouraged private sector businesses and concerned citizens to walk into her office to collaborate with her on initiatives and to work together to find real working solutions before crafting legislation. She made it a point to not just listen to chatter on issues, but find out first-hand what the truth was.
A perfect example is the school lunch programs on St Croix. Most weeks for several months, Senator Buckley grabbed a staffer from the office and went to the local public schools to sit with students and eat the same lunch they were eating; to experience the same meals they were being offered and hear their feedback. One of Judi’s most important qualities is that she LISTENS to her constituents. Even the youngest ones. I am again honored to be assisting with her campaign for the SC House from afar and know that she will bring the same ethics and drive to the people of District 17 that she did for us in the islands. South Carolina is truly blessed to have her. — Cindy Clearwater, Former Senate Staffer
